First Stop is the first step towards making positive life choices.
First Stop is a residential housing support service for adults who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. We provide short term emergency accommodation, and make sure our residents have the support they need to take the next steps forward in their lives. We can accommodate individuals (16+) and couples, or families of up to two, where the son or daughter is 16+.
First Stop is the first step towards more long term, settled accommodation, in either a private let, or temporary/permanent council accommodation. In some cases, e.g. if you have further support needs, you may also move in to our Ravenswood service, which is also in Kirkintilloch.

If you move in to First Stop we’ll work with you to develop a support plan that is unique to you; it’ll be based on your needs and what you want from the next stage of your life. Whether it’s dealing with addictions, accessing benefits, getting mental health support, or developing healthier habits, we can help you take those important next steps. We’ll make sure you can access wider support networks as well, and help you develop life skills like budgeting and managing your own tenancy.
Everyone in First Stop gets their own room and en suite bathroom. We have 17 rooms in total, across 2 floors, and each floor has communal kitchen and dining areas. It is a safe space; we have staff onsite 24 hours a day and can offer support at all hours of the day.
How To Get Involved
If you (or someone you know) is at risk of homelessness, and wants to access First Stop, you need to be referred to us via East Dunbartonshire council’s Homelessness team. Reach them HERE. How long someone stays with us varies depending on what their needs are, and what alternative follow on accommodation is available.

We’ll give you the tools and support you need to start applying for new jobs and opportunities.
