West End Project

Bringing people together to learn new skills, build new friendships and get the most out of life.

About

The West End Project has been providing day opportunities and outings for adults with physical disabilities in Dumbarton for over 20 years.

We’re here to help you to do what you want to do. It could be anything from one to one support with practical day to day activities  (paying bills, shopping, visiting the gym) to more fun group activities like social nights, growing veg in our allotment, fishing, swimming, reiki, storytelling, the list is endless. Maybe you would like to feel more confident using public transport? We can support you at the Centre, or out and about in the community, or both, depending on what you prefer.

When a new member arrives at the project, the first thing we always ask them is:

‘What do you want to do, and how can we support you to achieve this?

We’ll then revisit that question together with you over the next weeks and months, to make sure we’re helping you to achieve your goals.

We endeavour to go above and beyond to support our members, who in turn contribute so much to making the project what it is. One of the project’s real strengths is that it is a fantastic community; it’s a space where people can connect, start new friendships, and make new memories. One of our main aims is to help combat social isolation, supporting our members to live healthy, active, socially engaged lives. We run numerous social events throughout the year, and have an active online Facebook community as well.

How to Get Involved

Originally based in the Brucehill area, the service moved to Castlehill in 2005, which allowed the project to grow, taking on new members and a larger staff team. We now have a jam packed calendar, combining structured activities and outings (using our accessible minibus) to make sure there’s always something for everyone!

Our members are really involved in everything that we do. Every 8 weeks we have a members forum meeting where members can make sure their voices are heard.

If you or someone you know would like to join the West End Project, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page; we’ll tell you a bit more about what we offer, and talk you through the process of becoming a member.
